Brown's Mart, in Darwin's CBD, is a versatile venue comprising and indoor theatre, outdoor courtyard area, bar, exhibition space and an administration building housing a number of arts organisations including Darwin Fringe, Festival of Darwin, and Music NT.
The Theatre is one of Darwin's most historic stone buildings and had a many and varied existence before being converted into a theatre in the early 70s. Music events are staged in the theatre and in the large courtyard, predominantly used for concerts and gigs.
Brown's Mart is a versatile venue with producers diversifying the space for each individual event. Brown's Mart is positioned right in the heart of Darwin with immediate access to the bus terminal and main street. Brown's Mart backs onto Civic Park and the removable fencing means large scale events can extend into the park. Capacity ranges from 200 to 500 depending on inside or outside use and how seating is deployed.
Brown's Mart is the venue to attract a wide variety of music from all genres ranging from events of the like of Ground Zero [dance party] to Darwin Fringe Club Nights to Bamboo Lounge [regular quarterly Friday night gigs] to Jazz Concerts. Artists of national and international acclaim who have performed at Brown's Mart include Yothu Yindi, The Black Keys, Michelle Nicolle Quartet, Drum Drum and Dave Graney.
