Throughout our 50 year history, Brown’s Mart has been committed to providing a home for artists.

We support our arts community through sharing our resources, providing advice, auspicing grants, mentorship, and working closely with artists to identify professional development strategies and opportunities. We promote and advocate for Territory artists – locally, throughout the NT, nationally and internationally. We reserve a hotdesk in our office for artists to work in a creative environment. Through our Education Program we are committed to providing quality arts and cultural experiences for young Territorians.

At the heart of all that we do is our sincere commitment to being welcoming and inclusive.

ENGAGE

AUSPICING

Brown’s Mart provides grant auspicing services on an as-needed basis for any NT artists seeking funding at a local, territory or federal level. Artists seeking auspice support can request advice or feedback on their grant application. Auspiced funds are managed through Brown’s Mart’s financial systems and successful grant recipients are assisted with funding variation requests and acquittals.

ARTS INFO DESK

We have converted our central CBD courtyard bar into an arts information desk, ready for locals and vistors. Offering coffee, drinks and a friendly smile, this desk will be staffed by Brown’s Mart staff and volunteers who can assist with information about arts in the Territory. Visitors can relax in the courtyard, chat to us about what’s on at Brown’s Mart and elsewhere and get a hand with where to head or how to book a ticket.

SCHOOL DRAMA

In partnership with Brown’s Mart, Sydney Theatre Company have been delivering School Drama™, in Darwin since 2016. School Drama is a national professional learning program with a difference - it brings the learning to the classroom, pairing school teachers with a Teaching Artist to embark on a unique co-mentoring partnership.

School Drama has a dual focus. The primary focus is on individual teacher's professional learning. With this in mind, a Teaching Artist will model how to use process drama-based strategies with quality children's literature to improve teaching and learning. The secondary focus is on improving student literacy and engagement.

Since 2009, over 35,000 students and teachers have participated in the program.

DARWIN FRINGE

Ever since the first Darwin Fringe ran amok at Brown’s Mart over 30 years ago we’ve loved and supported this remarkable event.

Today, Brown’s Mart supports Darwin’s independent arts festival in a number of ways; through mentorship, auspice, discounted venue and technical support, and most importantly, by sharing our office with the Fringe team
year-round.
