We have finished another busy and successful year at Brown’s Mart. The year has flown by and we are hurtling, at a frighteningly fast pace, towards the 20s.
This year we had an excellent Education Program production, The Crucible playing to 550 students and 11 schools, we sold every ticket to the Griffin Award winning Turquoise Elephant, our production in the Town Hall Ruins proved very popular and our final SHIMMER show of the year, SINGULARITY, was a theatrical treat, the script, by a local writer, has been optioned as a Hollywood film.
We hosted thousands of people in our venue through the Darwin Fringe Festival and the Darwin Festival, had productions from local companies such as Artback NT, Corrugated Iron Youth Arts and the Darwin Theatre Company. We saw productions from Essington and Casuarina and we also hosted the NT Battle of the School Bands final.
Music played a huge part at Brown’s Mart with the NT News Live on Fridays welcoming in the weekends in the dry and our continued partnership with Happy Yess
A lot of our work occurs not in front of an audience, but through the development of artists and projects. We partnered with Moogahlin Performing Arts to start a First Nations playwright program and we also worked with the Australian Theatre for Young People with their Fresh Ink program to help develop young writers. Our own development program the NT Airports BUILD UP program saw four new productions starting their journey
2019 doesn’t see us slowing down as we continue to support live performance in the top end of the Northern Territory
Have a safe and happy festive season and we will see you in the new year.
