Brown’s Mart Productions is pleased to present their inaugural script-in-hand play readings series of established and new works. Open to the public, these one-night only performances are part of Brown’s Mart’s mission to develop local artists’ directing and acting skills by performing for live audiences in a casual atmosphere with minimal production elements.
On a Thursday each month of the dry season we will present readings of different texts, chosen by individual Darwin based theatre Directors.
Crave By Sarah Kane, Directed by Cj Fraser-Bell
Sarah Kane was a British playwright who is known for theatrical writing that tackled themes of redemptive love, sexual desire, pain, torture and death. Her plays are characterised by a poetic intensity, pared-down language, exploration of theatrical form and, in her earlier work, the use of extreme and violent stage action.
With four unnamed characters, no stage directions, and an unidentifiable plot; controversial UK playwright Sarah Kane’s penultimate work Crave is anonymous and furious raging in the dark.
This one act play explores identity, relationships, trauma and desire as the four characters go on disjointed journeys around and around each other as they bring the audience in and push us away,
Content Warning: This play has strong adult themes, language, and themes of abuse.
