Brown’s Mart Productions is pleased to present their inaugural script-in-hand play readings series of established and new works. Open to the public, these one-night only performances are part of Brown’s Mart’s mission to develop local artists’ directing and acting skills by performing for live audiences in a casual atmosphere with minimal production elements.
On a Thursday each month of the dry season we will present readings of different texts, chosen by individual Darwin based theatre Directors.
Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again. by Alice Birch
Alice Birch is an award-winning British playwright whose theatrical works include: Anatomy of a Suicide (Royal Court), Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again. (RSC/Soho Rep NYC), Ophelias Zimmer (Royal Court/Schaubuhne Theater Berlin), We Want You to Watch (National Theatre), Little Light (Orange Tree), Little on the inside (Almeida/Clean Break) and Many Moons (Theatre 503).
You are expected to behave. Use the right words. Act appropriately. Don’t break the rules. Just behave.
This play is not well behaved. It examines the language, behaviour and forces that shape women in the 21st century and asks what’s stopping us from doing something truly radical to change them.
This award winning play is “equally funny and disturbing, things turned upside down with dirty talk stripped naked, a marriage proposal interrogated and nudity in the dairy aisle of the supermarket.” (Malthouse Theatre production).
It is suitable for ages 15 and above.
