Thursday 27 June 2019 Evening Reads@7.30pm, Brown’s Mart Productions presents:
The Boy at the Edge of Everything by Finegan Kruckemeyer Directed by Kyle Walmsley
Finegan Kruckemeyer is one of Australia’s most prolific playwrights. His works are being performed internationally, including at the Edinburgh International Children’s Festival and at the Sydney Opera House.
His writing embraces complex visual and poetic metaphor in creating work that is sophisticated and embraces his young audiences’ intelligence and imagination.
The Boy at The Edge of Everything is an observation of the overscheduled lives and the rise of anxiety that young people are experiencing, told in a whimsical and up-beat style.
In the middle of his busy 12-and-a-bit-year-old life, Simon Ives dreams of a place where he can just stop and be. Meanwhile, at the farthest point in the universe, The Boy at the Edge of Everything lives by himself, lonely and bored. When Simon is rocketed into space (through an unlikely series of events involving ‘lots and lots of fireworks’), their worlds collide and neither will ever be the same.
Kyle is an award-winning freelance Director and performer. Currently Drama Program Manager at Corrugated Iron Youth Arts he was previously Associate Artist for The Flying Fruit Fly Circus, where he directed several short works and The Weirdest Kid in the World, touring primary schools in 2019. Previous work includes Creative Learning Producer for HotHouse Theatre, Director of Faster at Canberra Youth Theatre (2018) and Director of the development showing of Tent, Brown’s Mart Theatre (2015).
