ENGAGE

The ENGAGE program is run in four streams. First Nations, Diversity, Artists and Community.

ENGAGE First Nations

Brown’s Mart Theatre is committed to providing opportunities for the development and presentation of work by First Nation artists. One of the ways Brown’s Mart will achieve this is through its ENGAGE First Nations program which aims to provide a supportive environment for the presentation of First Nations led performance.

Applications will be assessed by a panel of 3 First Nation’s Artists against the following selection criteria:

  • Quality of the artistic outcomes
  • Audience Identification and relevance
  • Effective planning and budgeting

Applications will be made via an online form. Applicants experiencing difficult accessing or processing the form are encouraged to contact the Brown’s Mart Artistic Director for assistance. ed@brownsmart.com.au (08) 8981 5522

Applicants are encouraged to provide the following support material either as a file upload or as a web link:

  • 100-word bio for each artist involved on a single document
  • Up to 5 images, 5 pages of text, 5 minutes of video or 5 minutes of audio

ENGAGE Diversity

Brown’s Mart Theatre is committed to seeing faces on our stage that are representative of the community that we live in. The ENGAGE Diversity program aims to provide opportunity for artists and groups from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to present the performing arts.

Applications will be assessed by three artists from culturally diverse backgrounds against the following criteria.

  • Audience identification and potential
  • Effective planning and use of resources
  • Support from the community
  • The quality of the artistic outcomes

Applicants are required to submit an online application form and provide the following support material:

  • One page CV for the lead applicant/s
  • Up to 5 images, 5 pages of written work or 5 minutes of video or 5 minutes of audio
  • Evidence of community support

Engage Artists

The ENGAGE Artists program enables artist to present their ideas in a safe supported environment with the physical infrastructure and technical equipment of the facility at their disposal and with the support of the core staff of the organisation.

Applications will be assessed by a panel comprised of a member of the Brown’s Mart Artistic Reference Team, a member of the local arts community and the Brown’s Mart Artistic Director. They will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • Quality of artistic outcomes 

  • Audience Identification and relevance 

  • How the project adds to the diversity of theatre practice in the Top End 

  • Effective Planning 


Applicants are required to submit an online application form and provide the following support material:

  • One page CV for the lead applicant/s 

    • Combined bios of other collaborators (two-page maximum) 

    • Up to 5 images, 5 pages of written work, 5 minutes of video or 5 minutes of audio 

    • A copy of existing texts or a synopsis of new works

ENGAGAE Community

Brown’s Mart Theatre is committed to providing community groups with the opportunity to develop and present live theatre. The idea behind the ENGAGE Community program is to remove some of the barriers to getting a performance up and running and to give groups a safe, supported environment in which to present the performing arts.

Applications will be assessed by the Brown’s Mart Core staff against the following criteria:

  • Community reach and impact
  • Benefits for the participants
  • Effective planning and budgeting
